Fall 2021 Interior Design Trends

With fall officially beginning within the next few weeks, it seems like a great time to look at some of the different interior design trends that are arriving or have really grown in 2021. At the beginning of this year, we looked at the color trends that were going to be present this year in our blog post, Color Trends for 2021. Within this post, we discussed how nature was going to play a huge role when it came to colors and designs. Being present and content in one’s space was to be a major influence on interior design trends, as well. This idea can be seen in many of the interior design trends that we will look at here!

Here is a look at some major design trends for the fall of 2021:

Sage Green Kitchens

Green has been a very popular color for interior design due to its likeness to the outdoors. When using green, especially sage green, it feels as though you have brought nature indoors. In a previous blog post, The Psychology of Color, we discussed how the color green is often associated with calmness and serenity. A calm and inviting kitchen? Yes, please! This color can be seen as a neutral, as well, due its incredible complimentary ability. Sage green is a color that can easily blend with most other colors. We have a feeling that we may be seeing more and more of this color in the future.

Here are a few sage green tile examples that would work beautifully in a kitchen:

Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is defined as “a concept used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct nature, indirect nature, and space and place conditions.” Similarly to what we described with the sage green kitchens, this form of design is also used to make us feel more grounded and serine. You may have seen this form of interior design in hotels that incorporate indoor gardens or high rise buildings that contain walls covered in vines. This is almost like having indoor plants but emphasized. The purpose of this design is to bring the outdoors in and even the indoors out. As we tend to see more concrete and power lines, this is a great way of connecting us back to our roots - nature.

Eco-friendly Design

We are doing tile the sustainable way! Many people are beginning to re-evaluate their lifestyles when it comes to figuring out how one can have less of an impact on the planet. There are so many ways that you can be eco-friendly when it comes to interior design. Simply being conscious about the consumption of products can make a huge difference. When it comes to tile, specifically, some ways that you can be more sustainable are using products that use minimal energy in their production process, those that are made from recycled material, and tile that that is made local. We discuss sustainability with tile more in depth in our blog post, Reduce, Reuse, Re-TILE.

Warm Neutrals

Warm neutrals are back and better than ever! For the past few years, cooler tones, such as grey and bright white, have stepped into the spotlight, leaving warmer tones in the early 2000s. While we do love cooler tones, we are so happy to see that warmer tones are on-trend again. With the focus of 2021 being well-being and peace, it definitely makes sense that these neutrals have become so popular. Warmer neutrals can include more “friendly” tones, like oatmeal and linen. These colors pair beautifully with sage green, for instance, and all other earthy tones that can be seen in the most on-trend spaces. Many of these earthy tones include deeper colors, like midnight blue. This makes for a beautiful combination!

Textured Walls

Another returned trend is textured walls. Years ago, this trend was centered around paint. In 2021, however, we see this trend with tile, which is perfect for us! Using textured tile, like the beautiful silver glass tile you see above, is a great way of adding depth to your space. These textured tiles often look 3D, which can definitely create a unique design.

Here are a few examples of textured tiles that may catch your eye:

Pink Bathrooms and Kitchens

Pink bathrooms dominated the interior design community in 2020, and are continuing to be popular through this upcoming fall. Blush tones paired with marble tile and warm brass is a very popular combination right now. The color pink in bathrooms and kitchens was very on-trend in the 50s, but has thankfully made its return. Why are people so drawn to this color? Due to its versatility along with the warmth and cheer it brings to a space, pink is one color that can truly make a room pop.

This fall is looking like a stylish one, don’t you think? There are so many ways to incorporate beautiful on-trend designs into your home with tile. From recycled products to 3D looks, the options are endless this year. Let us know which design trend you want to see more of this season in the comments!
