The Comeback of Warm Tones

The 2010s were the prime time for grays, whites, and cool-toned neutrals. Gray is a fantastic neutral due to its compatibility with the majority of colors. However, after a decade of cool tones, the warm tones have decided to make a comeback! In the past few years, people have had more time to focus on their home and what they want for the future of their home. With so much time indoors, it seems that the interior design trends have switched to accommodate for people’s need of comfortability and warmth.

This comeback of warmer neutral tones can be seen with warmer whites, the use of limestone and travertine, and nature-inspired hues.

Warmer Whites

Whites are always a great option. It is a bright neutral that works well with every color! Depending on the undertones, whites can look either cold or warm. Neither option looks bad - it all depends on your personal style or what look you are going for with your space. With the comeback of warmer tones, we are seeing more warmer whites than we did a few years ago in the age of gray. With warmer whites, you can still accomplish that bright and clean look, but with a very cozy feel.

There are many options for warmer whites when it comes to tile - ceramics, porcelain, painted terracotta or wooden tile, and natural stone. The image below is a great example of a warmer white ceramic tile, while the image above is a beautiful concrete tile example.

Natural Stone

Natural stone will always be a great option to incorporate into your interior design. However, the trends associated may change. For some time, we have seen the brightest whites in marble, calacatta, and other natural stones, in every magazine and home across the country. Don’t get us wrong… We love this look! However, we’re beginning to see a shift. More interior designers are choosing natural stone with yellow or brown undertones, such as limestone and travertine.

Even if you want the bright white look, there are many ways to incorporate warmer tones with the classic white. For example, many mosaics and waterjet tiles incorporate both warm and cool-colored natural stone. In the image below, you can see a gorgeous mosaic tile incorporating calacatta gold and white thassos. The calacatta gold brings a warmth to the classic white look.

Nature-Inspired Hues

Interior design was heavily influenced by nature in 2021. The grounding and peaceful aspect it brought to a space has caused this trend to move right along into 2022. In 2021, we saw in influx of sustainable design materials and the idea of bringing the outdoors in. We can see the latter trend in 2022 with the rise of browns, sandy neutrals, terracotta shades, and pops of green. The browns and beiges are a great way of creating warmth within your space. While we do realize that the color green is not a warm neutral, it is still an important color to consider this year. Also, many people consider the color green to be a neutral. We are actually perfectly fine with staying home as long as we can see these design trends every day! What do you think of this shift? Are you more of a cool or warm-toned fan?
