Creating a Serene Space
/Do you crave a feeling of peace when you come home at the end of the day? You’re definitely not alone! Life can be crazy, and we often desire to have some sort of balance in our day to day. Oftentimes, one’s aesthetic and surroundings can create a sigh of relief. Interior design is a great way of creating a peaceful environment. The big question is “How can I achieve a serene space within my own home?” While there are many different ways to create a space that feels serene, there are three interior design qualities that are ideal for achieving this goal - incorporating warm neutrals, wooden accents, and muted colors.
Let’s take a look at these in more depth:
For the past ten or so years, cool-toned neutrals were all the rave. Recently, however, warm neutrals have made a comeback, as we discussed in our previous blog post, The Comeback of Warm Tones. While both cool and warm neutrals are fabulous, warm neutrals can create a cozy and comfortable feel for your space. Why is this? Well, just as the word implies, warm tones create a warm, secure feeling that feels welcoming, while cooler neutrals tend to create a cleaner look. Both options are great and have their own purpose.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a lot of stress for many people, which may have caused this shift in neutral design trends. People needed to feel safe and comfortable in their homes, which warm neutrals can help provide!
Here are some incredible warm-toned tiles that would work beautifully in many different spaces:
Have you ever had a stressful day at work and found that an afternoon walk or bike ride in the park healed all of your problems? That may be an over-exaggeration, but we do know that nature heals. Jim Robbins with Yale Environment 360 stated that there have been many studies conducted that “have shown that time in nature — as long as people feel safe — is an antidote for stress: It can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood” (via). Incorporating natural elements into your home is a great way of connecting the indoors with nature. While it would be so fun to have full grown trees in the middle of our kitchens, that’s just not practical. Adding wooden elements creates a feeling of the outdoors without truly being outdoors.
While wood floors have been on the market for quite some time, wooden tiles have made their appearance more recently. There are many styles for wooden tiles that can be incorporated in many different design aesthetics. Whether you have a more contemporary design or one that is more traditional, wooden tiles can take on an abundance of different looks. Another reason why wooden accents are great for creating a cozy space is that they tend to bring more warmth physically to a room. Some other products like ceramic tiles, can absorb and reflect cold temperatures.
Here are some beautiful wooden tile examples:
Some of you may be thinking, “Warm neutrals and wooden accents? I need more color!” Don’t fret! We’ve got you color fans covered. It is completely possible to have a calming space filled with color. In order to create a serene space, many people tend to move toward muted colors. What are muted colors exactly? Well, this simply means that the hue has a lower saturation. The color would be mixed with white, grey, or black, making the color look less vivid.
Color greatly alters the mood and atmosphere of a space. Vivid colors are perfect for grabbing one’s attention or helping you feel energized; however, this may not be the best option for the environment you desire when winding down at the end of the night. Muted colors have a more soothing effect. Both vivid and muted colors are great. It all depends on what effect you want your interior design to have on your space.
Here are some gorgeous tiles with more muted colors:
Creating a space that reflects who you are and what you desire in your home is key to successful interior design. For many people, home is a place of safety and comfort. In order to create this sort of sanctuary for oneself, the aesthetic and interior mood is very important. There are many ways to achieve this serene space, but there are three that we find to be the most effective. These include incorporating warm neutrals, wooden accents, and muted colors. Your home should reflect you currently and who you want to be! Why not create the serene space of your dreams?
